Inside Out Emotions Game

The Inside Out movie is a great springboard for discussing emotions with your kids. Head to the electronics department at Walmart and look for the Inside Out movie display.

I created a board game to help us talk about emotions even more. We used the Inside Out Tomy Toy figures as our playing pieces. You can purchase the toys at Walmart. We found them in the Disney aisle next to the Frozen toys. They joined the DVD in our cart. Then, I remembered we already had Joy and Sadness, so only Fear and Anger came home with us. All we’re missing is Disgust (she was sold out at our store).

You’ll also need a coin or a die. If you use a coin flip, you’ll move your character 1 or 2 spaces each turn (move 1 space for heads, 2 for tails). If you use a die, you’ll move your character, 1-6 spaces each time. Depending on what you roll, using a coin flip will make the game take longer.

How to Play:

  1. Flip a coin or roll a die to determine how many spaces to move. (Move 1 space for heads, 2 for tails.)
  2. When you land on a space, you will either act out an emotion or draw a scenario card. If you land on a white circle, draw a scenario card. Read the scenario and describe how it makes you feel. Do you only feel one emotion or many? If you land on a color, act out the emotion represented by that color. You could also give an example of a time you felt that emotion, or you could talk about different words that mean the same thing as the words used in the movie.
    yellow = joy
    blue = sadness
    green = disgust
    purple = fear
    red = anger
