Guest Room Design {Under $20}

My guest room is finished {and empty}.

I didn’t really want to spend much on the room since it will most likely remain empty.

I should have taken a before picture, but I was a little anxious to get it finished.

View as you enter the room. {The door is on an angle.}
Another view.

The only things I purchased for this room were the white blanket, the bed skirt, and the black pillow cases.

Everything else was repurposed from a different room in the house.

The other wall.

The white cabinet came from the bathroom in our old house.

We receive the glass plate and candle as a wedding gift {years ago}.

The flowers also came from the bathroom.  I like them better in here.

I found two canvases that weren’t being used, so I repainted them {after sanding off some layers of paint first}.

I covered them in two layers of black paint.  I actually tried white paint for one of them, but it would have taken a million coats to cover up the old painting.  The black did a pretty good job with one coat.  I painted a second coat just to make sure.

I was going to create a stencil using my Silhouette Cameo to paint the canvases, but I decided to paint them myself.

My husband says the dandelions would have looked better if I used a stencil. {I have a dandelion stencil that I like to paint onto t-shirts, but the shirts are way smaller than the canvas.  I didn’t think the stencil would look good blown up.}  I, personally, like my dandelion painting.

My son says the other painting looks like a tree with flowers.  He seemed quite impressed.  I guess I’m okay with that.  The inspiration for the painting was actually this algae print from the New York Public Library.

Gigartina pistillata. Digital ID: 419515. New York Public Library

I realize I could have downloaded and printed this {they have a whole collection for your use}, but then it would have been blue.  Plus it was really fun painting it.  I am considering printing some of the algae impressions for my bathroom.  My shower curtain has the same color blue.

I’m happy with the way it turned out.  Super simple and less than $20.

I may add a few more things to the room.
I would like a different throw {just black and white}.
I will probably make a pillow or two.
I would like to replace the curtains with a black and white pattern – haven’t found anything I like yet…

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my guest room.

Thanks for visiting!
