Coffee with Italian Sweet Cream or Mocha

When I order coffee, I typically get some kind of mocha or caramel (and often it’s an iced version).  I was introduced to an Italian sweet cream non-dairy creamer and fell in love.  I don’t particularly like all of the chemical ingredients in the non-dairy creamer {or the cost}, so I created my own recipe that like I even better than the non-dairy creamer.  Try it and tell me what you think!

Coffee with Italian Sweet Cream

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coffee
  • 2-4 teaspoons simple syrup flavored with vanilla {recipe below}
  • 2 tablespoons of heavy cream {could probably use half and half or milk if you must}

Add simple syrup and cream to your coffee, stir.  You may want to play around with the amount of syrup and cream you add to get it perfect for your taste.  I like using 1 tablespoon {3 teaspoons} of simple syrup and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream.

This coffee tastes great hot or chilled.

Flavored Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is a 2:1 ratio of table sugar and water. Add 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water to a saucepan. Heat on high and stir until all of the sugar is dissolved. It will look cloudy at first. Let it come to a boil and it will become clear. Once it is clear, take it off the heat and let it cool for 5 minutes. Then, you can add your flavoring. Add 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract. Carefully, pour the syrup into a storage container and store in the refrigerator (once it’s completely cool). You can add it to your coffee while it’s warm or cold.

We make homemade cream soda by adding vanilla flavored simple syrup and half and half to sparkling water using this recipe.  (You can make different kinds of flavored syrups following the same method and using different extracts.)

Mocha

While I was playing around with coffee recipes, I decided to try a mocha.  This is the recipe I like best.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of coffee
  • 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of milk

Add cocoa, sugar, and milk to coffee and stir thoroughly.  (Adjust to your liking – the sugar amount is what you’ll probably want to change first depending on how sweet your like your mocha.)

This is also great served chilled.

Have leftover chilled black coffee?  You can add chocolate syrup and milk for mocha deliciousness.

What’s your favorite coffee?
