Edible Playdough: Oatmeal

Edible Playdough
Aiden is having fun with the playdough!

Aiden and I made edible playdough today.  Here is the recipe I used:

  • 1/2 cup of flour (Be sure to toast your flour first.)
  • 1 cup of oatmeal (I used quick oats, not sure it really matters though)
  • 1/2 cup of water

Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl.  Knead with your hands and enjoy!  If the dough is a little too dry, add a touch more water.  If it’s too wet, add a bit more flour.

The dough feels a lot like play-doh you buy in the store.  It doesn’t quite roll out the same way though.  It acts more like bread dough.  Aiden enjoyed hitting it and rolling it, but what he like most was eating it!  It tasted like flour to me, which I find unappealing, but I guess Aiden like it enough to keep eating it.  We did make this right before lunch, but still…

I wrapped what Aiden didn’t eat up in plastic wrap, placed it in a container, and stored it in the refrigerator for later use.  We’ll see if if will be usable on a later date.

Final verdict:  super easy to make, fun to play with, would use this again

I plan to try out more edible playdough recipes, so stay tuned!
