Circuit Cubes: Whacky Wheels Kit
We were sent the Circuit Cubes Whacky Wheels Kit for review. Each Circuit Cubes kit comes with 3 cubes – a motor, battery, and LED. They are LEGO compatible and will fit on your existing bricks. You can stack the Circuit Cubes together to make them work or you can attach them with wires.
The Whacky Wheels Kit comes with materials to build a car chassis plus 5 paper vehicle templates. My 8 year old chose to use the space rover template for his first build.
Add Motion and Lights to Your LEGO Creations
My son was super excited to build something out of LEGO and then add the lights and motor to it. The instruction manual comes with several build ideas and the Circuit Cubes site has even more creations to try. Everything from building a zoetrope to a speedy scorpion to a peanut butter mixer. We have our eye on the LEGO walker. It looks like the AT-AT from Star Wars. We need a few more LEGO Technic bricks before we can complete the build.
Aiden started with something simple. He took the chassis he already built for the space rover and added LEGO bricks to create a vehicle he’s calling a van.
He followed the directions in the manual for connecting the Circuit Cubes together in a line using wires.
Then he added LEGO bricks.
Watch the video below to see how the LEGO van comes together.
The LED cube is really bright. It works well for the headlights.
The Circuit Cubes are an easy way to get started with electronics and build something that moves. Circuit Cubes are recommended for ages 8 and up. I think younger kids would have success with the kits if they are already comfortable with assembling regular LEGO bricks. Otherwise, they’ll need some parent help.
In addition to the Whacky Wheels kit, there are currently two other Circuit Cubes kit: Bright Lights and Smart Art.
