LEGO Bowling and Graphing Plus 100 More LEGO Ideas

LEGO Bowling and Graphing

Aiden (age 6) and I went through the Unofficial Guide to Learning with LEGO and made a list of everything he wanted to try first. He chose the bowling activity first. He got to work building the pins and used marbles as the bowling ball. This activity is super cool all on its own, but I wanted to add an extra element of learning to it. I thought it would be fun to graph the pins that were knocked down. And what better kind of graph than a LEGO graph?

Set up the pins however you like. Aiden made a bunch of pins so he wanted to use them all. Or you can divide them up and play a two player game and make a graph comparing your results! (Ok, so graphs make me a little excited.)

Roll the marble to knock down the pins.

How many did you knock down? Add LEGO bricks to the graph to show how many. You can write on LEGO bricks with a permanent marker. Erase the marker with alcohol.

Reset your pins and roll again.

How many did you knock down this time? Add LEGO bricks to your graph. (You can leave the bricks from the first round on the graph or you can make a new graph. Totally up to you.)

You can also compare different marbles. How many pins will a smaller marble knock down?

The point of this game is to introduce graphing to your child using LEGO as a the catalyst.
