Warm Thoughts of Home
Gold Peak Coffee is sponsoring this discussion. Their slogan is “The taste that brings you home.” Drinking a warm cup of coffee always reminds me of my dad and transports me back home.
This is my dad on Veteran’s Day a few years ago.
He is retired from the Coast Guard. My dad is also a 3-time cancer survivor. He has battled cancer three times over the last 5 years and has come out on top each time.
When I have a cup of coffee, I think of my dad. He has a cup of coffee every morning at home and then goes to meet friends at a local restaurant for breakfast and more coffee. When traveling, he always makes sure to grab a cup of coffee.
My sister and I must have gotten our love for coffee from my dad. She has to have a cup of coffee every morning as well.
I love drinking iced coffee just as much as warm coffee. But it’s the warm coffee that evokes the feelings of home. It transports me to my parent’s house – to waking up to the smell of a pot of coffee. It makes me think of cold winter days when the coffee warms you up inside. I hear my dad’s voice and see my mom cooking breakfast in the kitchen.
No matter where I am, coffee is just like a sip of home – whether I’m ordering a cup at a restaurant, grabbing some to go on the road, or sitting in my favorite chair.
