Valentine Hearts on the Magnet Board
Here’s a learning activity perfect for Valentine’s Day. We played with valentine hearts on the magnet board.
Valentine Hearts on the Magnet Board
CraftProjectIdeas.com sent us a box of goodies to explore. In our box were some magnet sheets and some sparkly pom poms {among other things}.
I cut the magnet sheets into small squares and attached them to pom poms, craft sticks, cookie cutters, and a paper heart. Aiden loves playing with all of these things on their own. I thought he would enjoy the addition of the magnets. And he did. A lot.
*Don’t forget that magnets are not for children who put things in their mouths. Always supervise when using magnets.*
Here is the invitation I set up.
Aiden explored the different items on the board. He moved the cookie cutters around.
He made a face inside the heart.
How many pom pom will fit inside the smallest heart?
Oh look, you can place one heart inside another.
We made Valentine craft stick people. Look they’re holding hands. Isn’t that sweet?
Learning Time
You can also sneak a little learning into the fun by using the paper heart. On one half of the heart place x number of pom poms {I used 3.} Ask your child to place the same amount of pom poms or craft sticks onto the other half. Count aloud as you add your pom poms 1-2-3… Have your child count his pom poms aloud, too {you can help, too}. Now we have 3 pom poms on either side of the heart.
Other Ideas:
- Use magnetic letters to spell Valentine words, colors, shapes, etc.
- Use magnetic numbers to play the matching game. Place the magnetic number on one half of the heart and the correct number of pom poms on the other half.
- Use the craft sticks to make shapes or other pictures.
