20 Math Activities Inspired by Dr. Seuss –  I collected 20 ideas from around the web. Practice number recognition, counting, graphing, pattern making, addition, and more. There are also several free printables to check out.

Letter Sounds Race – This activity pairs running with learning letter sounds. It’s great fun and easily customizable to what your kids are learning.

50+ Storytelling Ideas – This post was published in the fall of 2012, but was the third most popular post of 2013. It is full of great story starters, activities, tips, and other story telling suggestions from around the web. I am constantly collecting storytelling ideas. Watch for another storytelling roundup in the future.

Cornstarch and Glue Playdough – This soft and stretchy play dough was a happy accident. I was trying out a new slime recipe and failed. After some experimentation, I came up with this lovely play dough.

Truffula Tree Math Games Inspired by Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax – This is one of my favorite activities from 2013. I just love the way the truffula trees turned out and the math games were a big hit.

How to Read with Kids to Promote Language Development {4 part series} – This series was written by my friend, Rachel – a speech-language pathologist. She talks to us about how to read books with our children depending on what communicator stage they are in. I also give book suggestions for each of the stages.

 

Simple Valentine Heart Craft – This is such an easy craft idea, but it’s always a big hit with kids. In the post, I share 5 ways to turn the simple craft into a learning activity.

Ten Black Dots by Donald Crews – In August, we featured Donald Crews as our author of the month for the Virtual Book Club for Kids. We chose to share activities for Ten Black Dots. We used black dots as inspiration for story starter art. I also created a Ten Black Dots number matching game.

Freight Train Color Matching and Letter Practice – Freight Train {also by Donald Crews} is one of my son’s favorite books. We used letter magnets to practice colors and letters while reading the book.

Pulled String Painting – This is a fun painting technique that practices fine motor skills, too.
