The Sunday Showcase – Connecting Science and Reading

Welcome to the Sunday Showcase! This week I’m featuring ideas for Connecting Science and Reading that were linked up last week. Each science idea comes with book suggestions. I love finding ways to connect books with science literacy. Don’t you?

Edventures with Kids provides ideas for having fun with the Lorax and learning about ecology for kids.

Gift of Curiosity shares an introduction to the states of matter. Also be sure to check out their list of books about the states of matter.

Dabbling Momma creates a lovely activity to learn about the seasons. Pair this activity with the Reasons for Seasons by Gail Gibbons or the Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree also by Gail Gibbons.

Stir the Wonder conducts a sink or float experiment and adds storybooks to their learning experience.

This week we continued working on measuring. We conducted a measuring experiment with cars and blocks. It’s a another quick play idea that goes along with our latest Fun with Rulers science challenge. We were inspired by the Foot Book by Dr. Seuss to measure our feet and then use our feet to measure lots of other things. Read Across America Day is coming soon.
