Spring Flower Box Craft
This adorable spring flower box craft is easy for kids to make. All you need is a bit of paper, some glue, and a box from your recycling bin.
Spring Flower Box Craft
I started making flowers to use in a learning game (more on that another day). My Silhouette was locked away with a sleeping Lily, so I tried to use a cookie cutter for a stencil. Yeah, right. That would take forever to make the amount of flowers I wanted. I wished I just had a flower paper punch – just like my circle and heart punches… I can make flowers out of those! A circle for the middle and circles or hearts for the petals.
Perfect. I showed Aiden how to make a flower and he set out making a whole garden.
We needed a box for our flowers. On the table next us was an empty Peeps box. Who doesn’t like marshmallows coated in sugar? Surely you have one lying around your house, too. If you’re like my husband and prefer not to eat Peeps, then raid your recycling bin for another cardboard. A tissue box would work wonderfully.
Here are the materials we used:
- Scrapbook paper of various colors, textures, and weights
- Scissors
- Circle punch
- Heart punch
- Glue stick
- Cardboard box (from Peeps)
How to Make the Paper Flowers
Each flower requires a circle center and either circle or hearts for the petals. We gave the flower below 4 petals. Other flowers received 5 or more petals. Using glue stick allows for time to push the petals around until they are situated just right.
The flower below is made of stacked hearts.
Add a circle to the middle to complete the flower.
We added stems to our flowers. Each flower got two stems. This helped the flowers be more stable and allowed us to attach them to the back of the box.
Aiden and I made quite a few different flowers. Each one was unique.
To make the flower box we covered the Peep box with paper cut slightly taller than the box.
The two flowers on the right above are made by adding a layer of circles behind the 5 hearts.
I can’t decide which flower is my favorite although I think I’m partial to the polka dot green flower Aiden made.
The more flowers Aiden made the more precise he got with his petal placement.
