Mom Tip: How to Treat and Help Prevent Diaper Rash
When Aiden was a newborn, he had really bad diaper rash for a while. It was so bad, we had to rinse his diaper area with water to clean it up and get rid of the bacteria. I used diaper cream, but it didn’t work. My doctor suggested using Aquaphor Healing Ointment. It is basically petroleum jelly {aka vaseline} with some other stuff in it. It works miracles. His diaper rash cleared right up and has never been that bad again. I use Aquaphor after bath time as a skin protectant. I also use it after a diaper change if I see the beginnings of a rash. He heals right up and we have no more tears over diaper rashes.
The containers of Aquaphor have lasted me a long while. In two years, I’ve only bought two – the largest container and the smaller size. {I also have two little tubes for traveling.} Aquaphor is made by Eucerin. You can find it next to the rest of the body lotion. They also make some containers that say Aquaphor baby, but I think they are either more expensive or you just get less for your money.
Extra note about Aquaphor: Use it on dry hands. A little goes a long way. It can be a bit messy though, so I recommend rubbing it in really well or putting it on before bed and wearing gloves.
Have you ever tried Aquaphor?
