M&M’s Valentine Glyph – A Secret Code Treat for Valentine’s Day
For our valentine glyph cupcakes, I used M&M’s in special valentine colors.
Choose your favorite cupcake recipe or box mix and your favorite frosting. I grabbed a chocolate cake box mix and my husband made me chocolate cream cheese frosting. It was a winning combination. I used a heart-shaped silicone mold (that’s safe for baking) for some of our cupcakes. I made regular round cupcakes for the rest. You could also buy pre-frosted cupcakes from the store if you need a time saver.
Aren’t the heart cupcakes adorable?
The Secret Code
Now for the secret code messages. First, you’ll need to sort the M&M’s. I enlisted the help of my eager 5 year old. If you are doing this with a large group of children, just be sure they have access to enough of each color and type of M&M’s – no need to pre-sort.
Our code uses two colors of the M&M’s® Red Velvet and all four colors of the M&M’s® Milk Chocolate. Either shade of red works for the secret code.

Here are the cupcakes that represent Aiden and me. Aiden decorated them both.
Use the code to figure out Aiden’s favorites.
What about the heart cupcake? Can you tell what the owner of this cupcake likes?
Still have M&M’s left? Practice some pattern making. Aiden had fun creating the patterns below.
I hope you have fun making secret codes with M&M’s!
