LEGO JUNIORS Inspires Young Makers
My son has been a long time LEGO fan starting with DUPLO when he was 2. Last year he moved up to regular LEGO {although the DUPLO blocks still see some action.}. We bought mostly LEGO bricks that allowed for complete freedom and creativity. They came with suggestions of how to build things, but my son requested our help to figure out how to build them. He especially needed help finding the pieces that were required. I first noticed LEGO JUNIORS around the beginning of this year and was intrigued.
LEGO JUNIORS
LEGO® JUNIORS is designed to give children age 4-7 a great first experience with LEGO bricks through iconic, fun and easy to build models. LEGO JUNIORS sets contain quick start elements and numbered pre-packed bags that can be built without help from Mom or Dad – which makes any small builder extra proud.
I love how the building instructions are super easy for kids to follow. LEGO has divided the pieces into bags that make searching for the bricks you need much easier. Follow the instructions to build the featured castle, pony farm, or other play set. There is a second set of instructions that tells you how to build even more things with your LEGO bricks. And of course there are plenty of bricks to allow for creativity.
Aiden {age 4.5} decided to build the castle first. He laid out the bags and opened the book. I showed him how to follow the instructions. The instructions show you what number bag to open, what pieces you’ll need, and how to put the pieces together.
Aiden wanted me to build with him, so I took the opportunity to do so. I helped him find LEGO bricks and handed pieces to him as requested. I allowed him to be in charge and tell me what to do. Mostly, I watched him build and took some pictures. We talked about what he was building as he went along. He stopped often to interact with the LEGO figures, set up scenes for them, and just play. Then, it was back to the business of building more for them.
In addition to the castle, we received the pony farm. Aiden also set out to follow the instructions and build the farm. He loved that he now had two LEGO horses {one from the castle and one from the pony farm}. He enjoyed feeding the horses carrots and walking them around the farm.
Join the Maker Movement with LEGO JUNIORS
Making and playing are an important part of childhood. In order to become creative thinkers, children need opportunities to Make using age-appropriate materials. Materials like LEGO® JUNIORS bricks allow for successful, non-frustrating, experiences for kids to Make and re-Make. Have your kids joined the Maker movement yet?
