Jingle Bell Drop Painting
Ready for a Christmas science activity? Let’s explore gravity with some jingle bell drop painting. It’s a fun Christmas STEAM activity for a variety of ages. Combine science and art to create a unique piece of Christmas wrapping paper.
Jingle Bell Drop Painting
Since it was a beautiful day, we took this activity outside. If you do it inside, you’ll want to protect your floor.
Supplies You’ll Need:
- Paint (We used washable tempera paint. Acrylic would work as well. Just be warned that it will stain.)
- Paper (We used leftover packing paper. Kraft paper or even freezer paper would also work.)
- Jingle bells of various sizes (check the dollar store or craft store)
- Box, cardboard, or something to place the paper on
- Tray, cardboard, or paper plate to hold the paint
Choose your paint colors and add the paint to a tray or similar surface. Place your paper in a large box or on some other surface. We did this to protect the paper from the grass.
Dip the jingle bells in various colors of paint and drop them onto your paper. Explore what happens to the paint splatter when you drop the same size bell from different heights.
What happens when you drop different sizes of jingle bells from the same height? Talk about the different sizes and shapes of splatter.
Continue dropping the jingle bells dipping them into paint as necessary until your paper is covered as you like. The end result will make a lovely piece of wrapping paper!
