Hungry Monster Math Games and SNICKERS® Brownies
Our hungry monster math games and SNICKERS® brownies recipe are sponsored by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser’s #WhenImHungry campaign. I love ideas for making math fun (and tasty)! Practice counting, addition, and comparing number values after making a monster craft.
Hungry Monster Math Games
A hungry monster wants to eat your SNICKERS®. Play a math game with him and see who wins.
You’ll Need:
- a cardboard box (we used a diaper box, but any size will work)
- construction paper
- glue (glue sticks worked well for us)
- scissors
- markers
- utility knife or box cutter (for adult use)
- 2 dice
- SNICKERS® (we used SNICKERS® Peanut Butter Squared – find them in a fun size variety mix with SNICKERS® Almond or in their own package.)
Create your monster. Cover your box in construction paper. Draw a large mouth. Have an adult cut out the mouth using a utility knife or scissors. Finish decorating your box to look like a monster. Will your monster be scary or silly looking?
Here’s the hungry monster Aiden designed.
Game Instructions:
You are playing against the hungry monster.
Roll both dice for the hungry monster. Count out that many SNICKERS®.
Roll both dice for yourself. Count out that many SNICKERS®.
Compare the numbers. Who rolled the larger number? Who has more SNICKERS®? The higher number wins. In our example above, the hungry monster rolled 5 and Aiden rolled 7.
If you win, you earn a point (or a SNICKERS® bar). If the hungry monster wins, he earns a point. Feed him a SNICKERS®.
Alternate ways to play:
- Roll the dice. Add the two numbers together. Feed that many SNICKERS® to the hungry monster.
- Roll the dice. Subtract the lowest number from the highest (i.e 5-1). Feed that many SNICKERS® to the hungry monster.
- The hungry monster only likes to eat an even number of SNICKERS®. Roll the dice. Is the number rolled odd or even? Feed the monster if the number is even.
How else can we play?
Monster Masks
Make your own monster mask.
For each mask you’ll need:
- a paper plate
- colored paper
- glue
- scissors
- tape (clear packing tape worked well for us)
- a craft stick
Decide where you want the eyes. Have an adult cut out holes for the eyes. Create your monster by adding colored paper to make a mouth, eyebrows, hair, horns, etc. Tape a craft stick to the bottom of your mask.
Here’s Aiden modeling the monster mask.
What’s a cure for a hungry monster? A SNICKERS® snack. Fruits and vegetables are a great option, too. Aiden likes to choose carrots. What’s your favorite way to cure a hungry monster?
