Looking for Halloween themed preschool learning games? You cool cats have come to the right place. Using cat erasers and felt cats I picked up at the dollar spot, I created 4 Halloween preschool learning games with cats. Practice colors, counting, and get kids moving with these simple cat themed Halloween games.
Halloween Preschool Learning Games with Cats
Last year we used black cats and colorful spider erasers for some Halloween Counting Games. This year I found colorful cats in the Target Dollar Spot. Cat erasers and felt cats combine to make a few simple Halloween themed preschool learning games.
Game 1: Colorful Cats Matching Game
Lily (age 4.5) and Elon (age 2.5) fell in love with the colorful cats (the erasers and the felt cats) as soon as they saw them. They immediately started placing the cat erasers on the felt cats by matching their colors.
This is a great sorting activity for toddlers and preschoolers. It works on fine motor skills, too.
Have your child place the cat erasers on the matching colored felt cat. (Only 3 colors match, but that’s just enough to sneak in a little skill building.)
Game 2: Race the Cats Listening and Movement Game
For this game, you’ll want to spread the felt cats around the room. It’s good to have enough space for the kids to run around a little.
This game is all about moving and following directions. Select a child to go first.
Name an eraser color and a felt cat color. (Say: take a purple eraser to a black cat.)
Call out a new set of directions for the next child. (Say: take 2 purple erasers to a purple cat.)
Change up your directions by adding in different colors or numbers. You could increase the difficulty by adding in multi-step directions. (Take a green eraser to a black cat and a purple eraser to a pink cat.)
Game 3: Drop the Cats Counting Game
For this game, you’ll just need one felt cat and a handful or two of erasers.
Hold the erasers above the cat.
Drop the whole handful onto the felt cat. Count how many erasers landed on the cat.
Pick up the erasers and drop them again. How many landed on the cat this time?
Game 4: Toss a Cat
Line up the felt cats. Place the erasers at the bottom of the line.
Toss the cat erasers one at a time onto the felt cats. What colors did they land on?
We found that the cat erasers bounced on our hard floor, so they didn’t always land where you want them to. It’s still a fun game in hand-eye coordination.
What other games would you play the cats?
