A Flashlight Treasure Hunt is a fun idea for Halloween.

You’ll need:

  • A flashlight (one for each child)
  • A bucket for collecting
  • A Halloween treasure (we used pumpkin erasers from the Halloween party section at Target)

A bag of erasers makes for an easy treasure. You could use something like our painted pumpkin rocks or other toys if you can’t find any themed erasers that you like.

Hide the treasures in plain sight all over the floor and around furniture. For older kids, you can place the treasures inside things to make the hunt more difficult.

Turn off the lights and let your children into the room with their buckets and flashlights.
Show them how to search for the treasures with their flashlights.

When they think all of the treasures have been found, count them out together. You can make piles of ten or use whatever counting method you prefer.

Let them take turns hiding the treasures for one another or even for you. My kids love it when I take a turn searching. They enjoy helping me find what they have hidden.
