Finding Dory Inspired Sensory Bin

Last week, I shared our Finding Dory Inspired Sensory Writing Tray. Today I have another Finding Dory inspired idea with an easy sensory bin. My kids have been playing with it outside for days.

The idea for the sensory bin started when the kids were playing in the blue sand after our marble drop experiment. They were enjoy scooping and pouring the sand between different containers and touching it with their hands. Aiden asked if he could get a sensory bin (a large plastic tub) and add water and animals to the sand. Dory, Crush, and a few Safari Ltd. coral reef animals joined the fun.

I was worried that the blue sand would turn the water blue but it didn’t. None of the blue dye came off of the sand. I used Crayola Blue Play Sand. I’m using an Amazon affiliate link so you can see what I’m talking about. However, I wouldn’t recommend buying the sand from Amazon for $25 plus shipping. It was only around $7 at the store for the same 20 pound bag.

I added a layer of sand to the bottom of the container and let the kids fill the tub with water.

They also added rocks and an island using the base of a planter turned upside down.

Such a super simple sensory bin that kids love. Water sensory bins are always a hit around here. Adding the sand adds another sensory element to the mix.

You could also add in some shovels or cups for them to scoop the water and the sand. My kids have fun burying the animals in the sand and swimming them around in the water.
