The Ultimate Kids’ Baking Book by Tiffany Dahle
When I heard about Tiffany’s baking book for kids, I knew my almost 10 year old would love it. Aiden loves trying out new baking recipes and creating delicious treats for everyone.
The Ultimate Kids’ Baking Book is organized by seasons and holidays. You’ll find something special to make for any time of year. There’s even a cool Holiday index at the beginning that has a list of holidays that include your standard celebrations plus special days like Star Wars Day (May 4th), family movie night, and snow days.
There are two chapters in the book that actually teach kids how to do some basic baking skills. This is perfect for anyone that’s just starting out. Learn how to measure and soften butter, cream butter and sugar, make whipped cream and frostings, add eggs to recipes, and more.
The photos in the book are simply gorgeous. The recipes are easy to follow. My son has a whole list of recipes he wants to try. The Fall Color Cookies topped his list. He also has an eye on the Witch’s Cauldron Brownie Bites. They would make a great addition to a Harry Potter Party.
Fall Color Chocolate Cookies
Ingredients for the Fall Color Cookies
- 2 sticks of butter, softened (The recipe call for salted butter. We used unsalted butter and added a pinch of salt.
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar (We make our own. See recipe below.)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 (10.5 oz) bags Reese’s pieces, divided (2 cups into the dough, add remaining to top of cookies)
How to Make Your Own Brown Sugar
Brown sugar is simply granulated sugar with molasses added to it. Rather than keeping a supply of store bought brown sugar on hand (which tends to harden and go bad), I like to keep a jar of molasses.
To 1 cup of granulated sugar, I add about a tablespoon of molasses. Stir with a fork until the molasses is incorporated completely.

Note: this is the shortened version of the recipe. Check out The Ultimate Kids’ Baking Book for full directions that are perfect for kids just starting out with baking.
Preheat your oven to 350°. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat with a mixer until creamy. Add vanilla.
Mix eggs one at a time into the dough.
Add cocoa powder and mix again.
In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the flour mixture to the large bowl until it is combined with the chocolate mixture.
Stir in 2 cups of Reese’s Pieces by hand. Set aside left over candies.
Spoon large rounded tablespoons of cookie onto the cookie sheet lined with parchment paper about 2 to 3 inches apart.
Flatten the dough slightly. Press the remaining Reese’s Pieces into the top of the cookies.
Bake for 15 minutes. (Cookies will still be soft. Don’t overbake.) Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Move cookies to a wire rack to until completely cooled.
Aiden is quite pleased with the results. These fall color chocolate cookies taste like a yummy combination of chocolate and peanut butter. If you don’t like peanut butter or Reese’s Pieces, you could use fall colored M&M’s instead.
