Our Easter Egg Counting Game is such a fun way to work on fine motor skills and numbers.

Easter Egg Counting Game

I created this game for my toddler, Lily (22 months). It has small parts, so adult supervision is a must. If your child is likely to eat the pom poms, you might want to save this game for when she’s older. Try our Counting Ducks game instead.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Plastic eggs
  • Easter basket (or bowl)
  • Containers (cups or bowls)
  • Pom poms
  • Marker
  • Paper
  • Tape

Write numbers on your plastic eggs. I chose the numbers 1-10, but you can choose fewer numbers to target if you’d like. Fill the eggs with the corresponding number of pom poms. Place the eggs in a basket or container.

Label each of your containers with numbers as well. I wrote numbers on small squares of paper and taped them to the inside of plastic cups. Alternatively, you could attach the numbers to the side or write directly on the containers. Do you have a stash of yogurt cups to use?

Have your child select an egg and break it open. Find the container that matches.

Have her drop the pom poms into the container. I counted the pom poms as my daughter did this. You could have your child do the counting as well.

Set that container aside and select another egg. My 6 year old thought it was fun to reset the activity at this point. He took the pom poms from the containers and added the correct number to the eggs.

Breaking the plastic eggs open and picking up the pom poms makes for great fine motor practice. You could also have your child use a pair of plastic tweezers or tongs for even more practice.
