DIY Harry Potter Book of Spells

Print your own Harry Potter Book of Spells complete with wand motions, pronunciations, spell meanings, and uses. A spell book is a great addition to a Harry Potter party and take home gift for party guests.

I went searching for a simple Book of Spells to print for my son’s Harry Potter Birthday party. Several websites have lists of spells from the Harry Potter universe and several bloggers have created printable Harry Potter spell books. None of the available free downloads included wand motions. In order to learn the spells properly, a witch or wizard has to know the correct wand motion.

So I created my own Book of Spells that includes wand motions. I used wand motions from Kano’s Harry Potter Coding Wand and the Harry Potter Wizard Training Wand.

For each spell, I also included pronunciations, a common name, and what the spells are used for. The end of the book has extra information and terminology relating to spells. There is also room for you to add your own spells.

The spell book is only 4 pages (2 pages printed front and back). With 16 spells, it is by no means a comprehensive spell book. It makes for a great introduction to common spells and works perfectly for a party favor.

I used free fonts from Harry Potter Fan Zone and embedded them into the PDF printable. They should print correctly for you. If for some reason the fonts aren’t showing up for you, trying downloading and installing the Harry P and Inkpot fonts.

For my son’s Harry Potter, I simply printed the spell books on white paper. Here I have one printed on resume paper to mimic parchment paper. Choose whatever paper works for you. The kids will love it either way.

Scroll down to the section titled “Instructions to Print Your Own Harry Potter Book of Spells.” Click on the link that says “Download the PDF Book of Spells here.” It will open in your browser window. You can print from there or open the file with Adobe Acrobat Reader and then print. Hope that helps!

If you want to give the paper an aged look and a bit of the look of parchment. Use really strong coffee in a bowl crumple up the paper in a ball (1 sheet at a time). You can dip it in the coffee like that but i found that the paper tore to easily so i undo the ball dip the paper in the coffee (just to be completely dipped in the coffee), the leave out to dry. Here in texas it didnt take too long. Then you can flatten with an iron. But place a thin dish towel over it first. Ive been making handmade journals this way. You can use tea in place of the coffee but it wont be as darker of a color. Once dry and flattened it should go thru the printer fine. But it must be flattened with an iron for the printer. Not sure how well it would work if you printed out first then did the dipping. U would think do it that way just make sure the ink is very dry. Have fun.
