Bunny Ears for Babies

After reading The Bunny Rabbit Show! by Sandra Boynton, we were inspired to be bunnies ourselves. The typical bunny rabbit ears you find in the store don’t really fit baby Lily. I had to make bunny ears for babies to wear, too. Affiliate links are included in this post. Thanks for supporting Inspiration Laboratories.

Make your own bunny ears for babies. Inspired by The Bunny Rabbit Show by Sandra Boynton

The Bunny Rabbit Show!

We love many books by Sandra Boynton. Moo Baa La La La and Barnyard Dance have topped our list for years. The Bunny Rabbit Show! was just published last fall and it is easily our current favorite. The whole book is a song. The bunnies are singing and dancing and putting on a show for you. Don’t worry if you’re not a bunny. You can join in, too. Just grab a pair of bunny ears and sing along. By the end of the book, Boynton’s pigs, sheep, and chickens are dancing in the book.

Bunny Ears for Babies

Everyone has to have a pair of bunny ears while reading The Bunny Rabbit Show! even babies.

I didn’t use my sewing machine to make the ears – just fabric glue and little hand sewing. Here’s what you’ll need to make the ears.

bunny ears materials

  • fabric for the ears (I used some leftover fleece although a lighter fabric would have been a better choice)
  • fabric scraps for the white of the ears (I used felt)
  • baby headband
  • pipe cleaners
  • poly-fil
  • fabric glue
  • scissors (I used my super sharp fabric scissors)
  • needle
  • thread
  • marker

I used a store bought bunny ear as my pattern. I stacked four pieces of fabric together. Then, I placed the bunny ear on top of the fabric and traced around it with a fabric marker. I cut out all four ears at once so they were the same size.

Next, glue two pieces of cut fabric together just on the edges. Leave the bottom edge unglued so you can stuff it. Repeat with two more ear pieces. Glue two felt pieces on top of the ears.

After the glue dries, you can fill the ears. Fold 2 pipe cleaners in half and shape them into ears. Place a pipe cleaner inside each ear. Add some poly-fil (stuffing) to give the ears more dimension.

Attach the bunny ears to the baby headband. I simply sewed the ears on by hand.

Read the book and join in the fun! Should I mention that baby should be supervised while wearing the bunny ears and the bunny ears are not for eating? 🙂

I think my phone camera may have gotten the better shot. What do you think?

This book is going in Lily’s Easter basket. It would be super cute to add some bunny ears, too.
