Before the Child is Born…
I heard a song on the radio today, “What it Means to be Loved” by Mark Schultz. The song describes a couple who get a call from the doctor about their unborn baby. The doctor tells them their baby probably won’t live past one year old. The doctor asks the parents what they want to do. The soon to be mom says, “I want to give her the world. I want to hold her hand. I want to be her mom for as long as I can…I want to show her what it means to be loved.” This struck me as a very powerful statement. Before the child was born, the mom chose to love her knowing that she might only live to be a year old. I can only imagine what disease or disability the child was diagnosed with in the womb. Knowing the life ahead of the child could be difficult did stop the mom from choosing life. God had a plan for their life. They were going to love the child for as long as they could – for as long as God allowed. The song goes on to say the child is growing up and going to prom. The doctors were wrong. If they had made the decision to abort the baby or give her up, they would have missed out on her entire life. The best decision is to always choose life. What would you choose?
