Build a LEGO Playground
Use your imagination and LEGO can become anything. We used DUPLO to build a LEGO playground for minifigures and animals.
Build a LEGO Playground
The idea for a LEGO playground came about when Aiden, Lily, and I were playing with DUPLO one day. Aiden was making a slide for the animals. I found the firetruck’s ladder and added it to the slide. Aiden built the tower with a pulley. While he was at school the next day, I finished building the playground.
I set up an invitation for him to explore the playground with plenty of extra LEGO nearby. He and a friend added new features to the playground and had a great time building and playing. They brought cars and animals to the playground and moved the flowers around.
I built the swings using the firehoses from the the firetruck. The two red pieces on the side make a great park bench.
Here is our original slide. We used tape to secure the blue part to the stack of DUPLO.
This is the second slide/climbing feature.
In addition to Aiden’s tower, I built a tree. The blue circle serves as a merry-go-round. It has a piece that allows it to really turn.
Here is a view of all of the playground pieces.
Do you see the 4 bricks at the bottom of the top slide. That is a person Aiden built. When Lily plays with the playground, we can take away the small LEGO people for safety. (She still loves to put everything in her mouth.) The DUPLO zoo keeper is usually somewhere in the playground, too.
I encourage you to set out a building invitation for your child. Try out the playground idea. Maybe just start with the swings and your child can build the rest. Or build a house and your child can create the whole neighborhood. Build a few animals and your child can finish the zoo. Whatever you build, have fun!
