Goodnight Moon Storytelling Basket

Yesterday I shared a Goodnight Moon I Spy Game for the Virtual Book Club for Kids. Today I’m back with another fun idea that’s perfect for babies. Older kids will like it, too. Goodnight Moon Storytelling Basket

Goodnight Moon is a classic board book from Margaret Wise Brown. The text is simple and rhythmic. It’s one of the few books my daughter, Lily (11 months old) will sit through without trying to eat the book.

When reading the book, I point to the items mentioned. “And a red balloon”…there’s the red balloon.

To help Lily connect to the book even more, I gathered some items from the story and placed them in a basket. All of the items I chose are baby safe with supervision. Lily likes to explore everything by putting it in her mouth.

The Goodnight Moon bean bag bunny has bean bag filler in it so obviously baby shouldn’t be left alone with it (recommended age is 3+). There’s also a Goodnight Moon Blanky available (recommended age is 8 months+) or a Goodnight Moon Cuddle Bunny (recommended age is 18 months+).

I first let Lily explore the items in the basket.

Then, I read the story to her pulling out items as I mentioned them.

After we read the story, Lily explored the items some more and I talked about them.

I think she liked this idea. It’s such a fun way to bring a book to life.
