3 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Keep
I’ll be honest. I’m not really one for resolutions. I cringe when someone asks, “What’s the one thing you resolve to change this year?” Why do we have to change anything? Why do I have to make a resolution just because everyone else is? I do, however, believe in self-evaluation, goal setting, and making improvements to my life or my attitude. I suppose the start of a new year is just a good time to refocus and realign myself with my goals. Last year I simply chose a word for the year that helped guide my choices and actions. This year I’m choosing to reaffirm things I value and goals I have. Here are 3 New Year’s resolutions you can keep.
3 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Keep
#1: Resolve to Show Love
Yes, this is a seemingly generic resolution and normally when goal setting one should be specific, but let me explain. If we show love to others, we are less selfish. Excuse my bluntness, but the world could use less selfish people. If loving others and considering others becomes the norm, we will all be better off.
What does showing love look like? Speak kindly to others. Open the door for people. Give hugs. Say I love you. Care. Be genuine. Lend a hand. Listen. Think of others’ feelings. Be polite. Use your manners. Encourage. Praise. Respect.
#2: Resolve to Spend Time Together as a Family
This resolution can take many forms. How will you spend time together? Plan to eat dinner together without any distractions. Go for a walk together each week. Read stories at bedtime together. Make time for play each day.
#3: Resolve to Take Time for Yourself
This is may be the most difficult of the three resolutions. How often do you forget about yourself? Or maybe you know quite well how you are prioritizing things. Do you leave any time for yourself in your day or week? Choose to do something that you want to do. You don’t have to do it alone. Maybe there’s an activity that you want to start with the family. Or maybe you’ll get up 30 minutes earlier to read that book you’ve been dying to read. Maybe you want to work on organizing or decorating. Whatever it is, just make a point to take time for yourself this year.
So, what do you think? Are these New Year’s resolutions you can keep?
