Vinyl Wall Map for Aiden’s Room

I’ve been looking around for vinyl wall art to place above my son’s bed. When decdecals offered to send me some of theirs in exchange for a review, I jumped at the chance.

I’m in the process of working on both Lily’s new nursery and Aiden’s room. I wanted Aiden to feel special, too. He got to choose new bedding for the room. That has been the springboard for the rest of the design. Today I’m going to share one wall with you. In the next few weeks, I’ll share the gallery wall and reading area in his room as well as Lily’s nursery.

Here is the before picture of Aiden’s wall. {Actually the bed was turned against the wall.}

I chose the Map of the World vinyl wall art from decdecals. It arrived in a mailing tube. I recommend taking it out immediately and uncurling it. This will make it easier to apply to the walls later.

The vinyl map came with a piece of transfer material {similar to contact paper but not as sticky}. I placed the transfer material on top of the map as I pulled away the protective covering.

I cut the map into two pieces and used painter’s tape to position them on the wall. I wanted to figure out placement before I tried to apply the vinyl to the wall. {This particular vinyl can be adjusted if you make a mistake though.}

Follow the directions for applying the map to the wall. It was fairly straightforward. You’ll want to make sure to apply lots of pressure to the transfer material before peeling away the backing. I recommend doing this against a hard surface. Sometimes the vinyl didn’t want to stick to the transfer material. I just put it back together and tried again.

At the end I had a few stragglers. I cut a small piece of the transfer material and pressed it onto the pieces that didn’t come off the first time. Then, I added these to the correct spots on the wall.

Here is a close up of the finished map. It took me a while to get it up, but I am happy with the finished piece. I also like how easy it will be to take down when we’re ready to move in a few years.

We placed his dresser next to the bed. {It needs a makeover, too…} I found the blue lamp at Target. The piggy bank was a gift from my aunt. The cute cardinal actually makes cardinal sounds. The frog frame has one of Aiden’s baby pictures in it. He loves that picture {and so do I}. He’s wearing a shirt that says Mommy’s Lil’ Prince Charming and laying on a frog blanket – hence the frog frame.

I have a large map of Missouri {our state} that I’m wanting to put on the adjacent wall above the dresser.
