Find the Unicorn Rainbow Sensory Bin

A Rainbow of My Own by Don Freeman is today’s featured book. We’re sharing a Find the Unicorn Rainbow Sensory Bin. My daughter absolutely loved it and I love that it’s super easy to set up. Affiliate links are included in this post.

Sensory bins are a great way to work on find motor skills. They also let kids explore different textures, sights, sounds, and even smells if you want to include that. Practice making observations, work on sorting skills, or add in math and literacy. Sensory bins have a lot of potential for learning plus kids think they’re super fun and often calming.

Safety note: this activity includes small parts. Supervise your child and choose an alternate activity if your child tends to put everything in his/her mouth.

Our unicorn rainbow sensory bin includes 2 supplies: a Good Luck Minis Fantasy Pack sent to us from Safari Ltd and tons of pom poms sent to us over the years by CraftProjectIdeas.com. I’m especially fond of the rainbow pom poms and the sparkly pom poms.

The setup for this activity is simple. Add lots of colorful pom poms to a container. Use a smaller container if you have less pom poms. Hide the good luck minis underneath the pom poms.

Our good luck minis included dragons, a Pegasus, and a unicorn. The goal is to find the unicorn.

Lily had great fun searching through the colorful pom poms to find the unicorn. She was excited to find each of the dragons and the Pegasus as well.

After finding all of the creatures, she hid them again. She also asked for bowls and a spoon to help with her play. You can add in tongs or a clothespin to encourage even more fine motor work.
