Top 10 Preschool Learning Activities of 2014

#1) Super Hero Math Game: Catch a Villain – This post was inspired by comics Big G Cereals sent us. Super heroes were very popular in our house around this time. This was our most popular non-science activity of 2014.

#2) Measuring with the Foot Book by Dr. Seuss – Measuring skills are both a math skill and a science skill. I chose to place it in the math category for today.

#3) 15 Rainbow Scavenger Hunts – Everyone loves rainbows. They are so pretty. Try one of these colorful scavenger hunts.

#4) Storytelling through Art – We love storytelling and book-inspired activities. After science, those are probably the most common things you’ll find on this site. Our love of storytelling started after Jillian from A Mom With A Lesson Plan encouraged me to try it with then 2 year old Aiden. We were hooked. This post is a guest post by Jillian that she wrote while I was enjoying snuggle time with newborn Lily.

#5) 20 Maze Activities for Kids – Aiden loves mazes. I print mazes for him quite often. I even bought him a book of space themed mazes for his birthday. These maze activities are perfect for maze loving kids.

#6) Hide and Seek Valentine’s Day Card – This card was inspired by Laura Numeroff’s book, Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! Mouse makes cards for each of his friends including a hide and seek card for Rabbit who is good at playing hide and seek. Aiden wanted to make one, too.

#7) 50 Books about Going Back to School – I featured several back to school book lists plus some of our favorites in this Sunday Showcase post.

#8) Cornstarch and Jello Play Dough – This is a variation of our super soft and stretchy cornstarch and glue play dough. The Jello adds a nice color and smell to the dough.

#9) Tissue Paper Art Inspired by Eric Carle – This is one of my favorite art projects from the year. I’m glad you like it, too. We made tissue paper art in the style of Eric Carle. Aiden chose a hippo from 1, 2, 3, to the Zoo. I am drawn to the colors and texture of this piece.

#10) Artist Inspired Easter Eggs – This is another art project that Aiden and I worked on together. In the book, Henri, Egg Artiste by Marcus Pfister, Henri creates artist inspired Easter eggs. We chose our favorite pieces of art and created our own Easter eggs. These eggs have a permanent place on our china cabinet.

Popular Preschool Science Activities of the Past

20 Math Activities Inspired by Dr. Seuss – This was the 2nd most viewed post again this year. Dr. Seuss ideas are very popular especially around Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday in March.

50+ Storytelling Ideas – This post was published over 2 years ago, but continues to be highly trafficked. It’s a great resource for finding story starters, storytelling activities, tips, and more. I have collected even more storytelling ideas. Maybe I should write a sequel to this post?

Letter Sounds Race – Aiden loves learning games that involve racing or running around. Practice letter recognition and letter sounds with this fun game that gets kids moving.
