Hide and Seek Valentine’s Day Card

January’s featured author for the Virtual Book Club for Kids is Laura Numeroff. Yesterday, I shared our Party Hat Sight Word Matching Game inspired by If You Give a Pig a Party. Aiden and I also loved reading Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! We made a Hide and Seek Valentine’s Card inspired by the book. Amazon affiliate links are included below.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! is an adorable Valentine’s Day book. Mouse is making Valentine’s Day cards for all of his friends. He personalizes each card and is excited to pass them out. At the end of the book, all of the his friends show up with special Valentine’s Day cookies.

Hide and Seek Valentine’s Day Card

Mouse made a special hide and seek card for his friend, Rabbit, who is great at playing hide and seek. Aiden wanted to make a hide and seek card, too.

I folded a pink piece of scrapbook paper and cut it to size. I cut a small rectangle to make the pocket on the front of the card. I folded 3 sides of the rectangle and glued the folds to the card.

Aiden cut out hearts from different colors of paper. He cut the paper into small rectangles. I folded the papers and drew a half of a heart on the fold. He cut on lines. Aiden absolutely loves cutting paper to little bits, but this was the first time he agreed to follow a line {and a curved line at that}. He was happy with the way his hearts turned out.

In the book, Mouse uses drip painting for Moose’s card. We replicated the effect by doing some marble painting. I placed a heart inside a tissue box {that I cut the top off of} along side a drop or two of paint. I couldn’t find any marbles, so I used small wooden balls {from a game}. The balls worked well enough for us although they did get stuck in the paint a few times. We really had to shake the box. Marbles work much better. They have enough weight to roll through the paint.

The hearts were glued to the inside of the card and one painted heart was placed inside the hide and seek pocket on the front of the card.

Here’s the front of the card.
