Flowers and Frogs Counting Placemats

I started by heading to Target to buy the Back to Nature Made with Organic Pasta Macaroni & Cheese Dinner and the Back to Nature Made with Organic Crazy Bugs Macaroni & Cheese Dinner.

The Crazy Bugs make the perfect addition to the flowers and frog placemats. Use the pasta to make scenes with the sunflowers or use the pasta as a counter.

We took our macaroni and cheese snack outside for a picnic. Did you know that June was Get Outdoors Month and Mac & Cheese Day was July 14th? The kids ate their mac and cheese on our picnic blanket while playing with the Crazy Bugs on the placemats. I used contact paper to create the placemats. You could also laminate them.

I created 3 printables. There are simple flowers. I used a dry erase marker to write the number 1-5 on the flowers. Then, I helped Lily (age 2) to place the correct number of crazy bugs on the flowers. We counted out the numbers together.

I also created a frog with lily pads. I used this printable with Aiden (age 6). I wrote the numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 on the lily pads. This is a simple way for him to practice counting by 2’s.

You can also write math facts on the lily pads. For example,  1+5. Then, your child would add 6 crazy bugs to the lily pad.

The third printable is a garden scene with sunflowers and a tree. You can write numbers on this one as well or you can simply let your child create a scene with the Crazy Bugs pasta.

This was such a fun way for us to get outside, practice counting, and have a yummy snack.
