Draw a Letter Matching Game

I love simple learning games and quick play ideas. I created this draw a letter matching game when I saw a deck of letter cards and a pile of letter tiles on the floor. It’s great for practicing letter recognition. You can also use it to practice letter sounds and even writing. Amazon affiliate links are used in this post. Supplies You’ll Need:

  • letter cards – We used Scrabble Slam Playing Cards {which is a fun game for word game lovers}

  • a bin or container for the letter tiles
  • a second container or jar {we used a peanut butter jar}

How to Play:

  1. Place the letter tiles in a bin large enough to allow your child to search through the letters.

  • Practice letter sounds. After finding a letter, say the sound the letter makes.
  • Practice letter writing. After finding a letter, write down the letter on paper.
  • Practice beginning letter sounds. After finding a letter, say a word that starts with the letter.
  • Pick up letters using tweezers {like we did in our name practice letter hunt}.
