Colorful Bookshelves and Painted Wall Border

I’m really excited to share our latest project in Lily’s nursery. We built colorful bookshelves and added a painted border to the wall.

The Painted Wall Border

To plan for the placement of the border and shelves, I used FrogTape® Multi-Surface. This helped me visualize the size of the bookshelves and where on the wall I wanted to place them and a general idea of where I wanted the border.

After the shelves were built, my husband and I more accurately drew the lines for the border on the wall.

Then, I used Textured Surface by FrogTape to help ensure clean lines on the border.

FrogTape® is treated with PaintBlock® Technology, a super absorbent polymer that reacts with the water in latex paint and instantly gets to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, which helps prevent paint bleed.

Textured Surface by FrogTape was really easy to use. Here are a few tips for getting sharp paint lines:

  • Make sure your surface is dirt and dust free.
  • Make sure there are no gaps between your surface and the tape. {Don’t stretch the tape when applying it.}
  • Rub the edges of the tape with a fingernail, credit card, plastic squeegee, or putty knife.
  • When using non-water based paint, be sure to pre-activate the PaintBlock® Technology by wiping the edges of the tape with a damp cloth.
  • Follow the directions on the packaging for using the Textured Surface solution.

Check out that paint line!

After I took the tape off of the wall, I painted the inside blue. I used a paint shield to help me paint next to the pink border.

The Colorful Bookshelves

My sweet husband built these shelves for me. They are made of pine.

The shelves fit perfectly in the space.

I painted the shelves purple and pink to match the color scheme in the room. {I used a coat of primer first and then two coats of colored paint.}

I filled the bookshelves with some of our favorite books.

The rocking chair sits in front of the bookshelves making this a nice reading area.
