Camping Gifts for Dads

The best memories I have with my dad are the ones that involved our spending time together. My dad is retired from the Coast Guard. He dedicated his career to serving our country and he is a hero to me. He was on a cruise or on watch for parts of my childhood, so the time we spent together was special. I remember camping trips, fishing, bike rides, building Powder Puff Derby cars, fixing computers, and lots more.

My husband is great at spending time with our kids, too. He is definitely my son’s hero. Aiden wants to be just like his daddy. Camping is their next adventure together. They have all the necessary supplies. They just got a new tent since the last time they went camping, the old tent leaked and they got rained on.

It made sense to give this year’s Father’s Day gift a camping theme. The gift has lots of things to make their camping adventure extra special.

The star of the gift is the Energizer headlights. My husband has been asking for a new headlamp for a while. (I don’t know what happened to the old one.) Now he has two. One for him and one for Aiden. Hands free lights making working in the dark so much easier. Have you ever set up a tent at night?

I chose the super bright Energizer headlight for my husband. Since the two of them will always be together, I didn’t figure my son needed one quite as bright.

The gift bag is a small lunch cooler. Always handy on a camping trip plus it can be used for everyday lunches.

Paracord bracelets. A fun craft for kids to make.

Books! We have a Father’s Day tradition where the kids give their dad a book each year. This year, he’s getting 3 books. (Affiliate links are below.)

  • Just Me and My Dad by Mercer Mayer – It’s about a father-son camping trip. Little Critter tells the story and makes quite a few mistakes during the trip (a bear eats the fish he was cooking), but they still manage to have a great time.
  • Camp Out!: The Ultimate Kids’ Guide by Lynn Brunelle – From tent pitching, building campfires, and knot tying to recipes, crafts, and nature exploration, this book is full of camping activities for kids.
  • Moo! by David LaRochelle – Since the first two books were geared more for Aiden and his dad, I needed a book for 1 year old Lily. The board book version of Moo! was perfect. The entire book consists of one word: Moo. Follow the cow as she gets into a bit of trouble with the farmer’s car all the while speaking in moo. It’s such a fun read.

Question for you: What are your must-have camping supplies that make a great gift? Something that’s extra special and not necessarily the normal tent and such.
