Alphabet Puppets and Matching Game

Use these easy to make alphabet puppets in a fun matching game to practice letter recognition!

Alphabet Puppets and Matching Game

We recently received a new box of craft supplies from CraftProjectIdeas.com. Aiden immediately started exploring the supplies. He opened the craft sticks and the alphabet foam stickers to create alphabet puppets. I thought it would be fun to use his puppets in a learning game. Here’s what we did.

Supplies Needed:

  • Craft sticks
  • Alphabet foam stickers
  • Cardboard rolls {or cardstock or construction paper}
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Alphabet beads

Aiden loves to use his scissors. Lately he’s been cutting cardboard rolls in half. I asked him to cut the cardboard in half one more time. Then, we rolled the cardboard tube quarters and taped them. {You could use cardstock or construction paper if you don’t have enough cardboard rolls.} Next, we wrapped the cardboard tubes with pipe cleaners and added alphabet beads.

We created 26 cardboard tubes each with an alphabet bead A-Z. I made sure there was at least one alphabet puppet of each letter, too.

I taped the cardboard tubes to the lid of a storage bin. The goal of the game is to place an alphabet puppet in its matching cardboard tube.

You could also use the alphabet puppets to practice letter sounds, sight words, or spelling. Aiden loves arranging the puppets to spell his name and other words. Place the cardboard tubes in the order of the words you wish to practice.

How would your child play with the alphabet puppets?
