Playing Outside: Chalk
When I think of playing outside in the summer, playing with chalk always comes to mind. Chalk is fun for almost any age! Aiden played with chalk for the first time when he was 17 months old. He was completely covered with it. It was all even all over his face. He attempted to eat the chalk! I’ve been a little reluctant to bring the chalk back out, but we did this past December. It was still messy, but he didn’t eat it. We’ve been drawing with rocks for a while now, so I finally decided to let Aiden have the chalk again {knowing that there would be a mess}. To my surprise, he didn’t cover himself in chalk.
He drew for a little while. Great practice with making lines.
I wrote the alphabet, and Aiden read the letters.
Then, we came up with a game to run around the yard.
I wrote the names of different chalk colors on the ground.
Then, I asked Aiden to find something outside that matched each color.
I pointed to a color and asked, What color is this? Aiden replied, “Blue.” Can you find something that is blue?
Aiden ran around the yard and returned with a blue bucket. We continued this game through all of the colors. He had a difficult time finding something black outside. I pointed to the strap on my camera and asked what color it was. Black!
This activity was great for getting moving and practicing colors!
