Egg Carton Creative Challenge

This month Tinkerlab has challenged kids to create something with egg cartons.

The objective of these challenges is to help children learn to trust their own ideas, build creative confidence, and envision new purposes for common objects.Rachelle from Tinkerlab

How creative can my two year old be with an egg carton?

Well, whenever Aiden gets a hold of an egg carton, he ends up ripping it to shreds.
He enjoys turning it upside down and poking it with his fingers.
He likes to pull it apart and hear the great sounds it makes.
There is nothing wrong with this.
It is a great sensory experience.
I was hoping we could come up with a little something more.

I pulled out another egg carton and asked him what he wanted to do with it.
He said he wanted to paint it.  {He loves to paint.}

I decided to use acrylic paint since I wasn’t sure if the washable tempera paint would adhere to the egg carton.
{It just flakes off of plastic.}

Aiden chose to paint with blue and green.

He was not into transferring the paint from the plastic lid to the egg carton.
{He decided to paint the lids instead.}

I squirted some paint directly on the egg carton.
Aiden showed me where he wanted it.

I showed him how to stick the brush into the cups.
He had fun covering the insides of the carton.

We then painted the outside.
Do you see how he pushed all of the compartments down?
{An added bonus to egg carton fun.}

Aiden likes to collect rocks.

He decided the egg carton made a good container for his collection.

He happily toted his rocks around in the egg carton showing them to us often.

The egg carton rock container lasted a week.
{It must have been too tempting to tear.}
